The Carnegie Hall owes its name to Andrew Carnegie, the famous industrialist, business magnate and philanthropist who helped fund its construction. The Hall’s foundation stone was laid by Mrs Andrew Carnegie and when the building was opened in 1902, the occasion was celebrated with a grand concert and dance. Some 100 years later, having been extensively renovated and refurbished, Carnegie Hall still remains at the centre of Portmahomack’s social and cultural life.
